Pinterest: An addicting way to establish backlinks

Pinterest is a social networking site full of illustrations. Participants in the network set up virtual boards where they will "pin" pictures. Then they browse other people's pictures and they can "re-pin" them to their own board.
The system is so easy to use that an eye-catching photos can be viewed and pinned by multiple people in a matter of minutes. Each picture lists the original place a picture was found...that means more people can find your hub or article.
Using Pinterest
You establish a Pinterest account by logging in through your Twitter or Facebook account. You will automatically be "following" the people you follow from Twitter or Facebook. After you name a few boards, you can surf through other people's pictures and "pin" your favorites with the click of a button.
Pinterest allows you to easily add a "Pin It" button to your bookmarks. Pushing your "pin it" lets you pin a picture to one of your boards from anywhere on the web. Each picture is posted with a link to where the picture was originally found. Once you pin something to one of your boards, you have the option to mention your post on Twitter and Facebook for even more exposure.
Warning: Pintercrest is addictive. Once you start pinning pictures it is difficult to stop. Don't forget to pin the pictures from your own hubs.

It's amazing how many social networking sites there out there. I've never heard of this one before. I'll have to check it out. Just what I need, another internet addition! : )
Credence, you make a good point about personal info being out there. That's really another hub. I got over it when my brother showed me a website that had all of my shopping habits, income, etc posted in the open. You decide how much info to share. I use my picture for my coaching business on my twitter account so that it was pinterest uses. You can easily stay anonymous with twitter and use an avitar like you do on Hub pages.

Glad I could help you out Highvoltage:) The pictures that you "pin" to Pinterest keep a back-link to the original post. It is kind of like posting a link to an article on Facebook. So to answer your question, the pictures that you "pin" do not have to be original, but alway be sure you have permission to use images on your own Hubs or blog posts.

I just learned about this site from a coworker. I wondered if anyone on HP was using it for backlinks. Seems like one more thing that I will have to find time to do! :) So much fun, so little time.
Cardelean! It really only takes a second to post a picture once you have the little widget on your desktop. The time consuming part is when you get addicted to other people's pins!

Thanks! I went to the site but I have to wait for an "invite" so I guess it's on hold until then. As far as time goes, I am a mom of a 3 and 4 year old and a full time elementary school teacher. I've used pinterest to optimize my site and the result was amazing my site was jumped from #234 to #9 in few weeks time. The trick is we must got our website pinned and repinned by many people this is the hardest part. Most of pinterest users won't doing repin when they aren't like what we pinned. I do simple thing to outsource it on fiverr and got my site pinned by more than 70 people, I don't know how can he did it just search by typing pinterest on fiverr and you will find it.
As I know currently pinterest is best for SEO for these reason:
1. Once our website pinned it has 3 backlinks counts
2. Google interest in social media signal so it will not tagged as links farm
3. Currently pinterest links are dofollow even the image
4. Also support anchor text, it's perfect for placing our keywords
Thanks for the tips Hida. Many people on Fiverr have social networks that reward members for likes, tweets, and repins. Likely this is how the gig you mentioned works. The best way to get repins is to post things that are interesting..my most pinned pictures are those of yummy food!
